GST Calculator: Add or Remove GST

Add GST to a price or take it out of a total. See the taxable value, CGST and SGST or IGST, and the total in words, with the 5%, 18% and 40% slabs and the older rates.

About GST Calculator: Add or Remove GST

Work out GST in either direction. Enter a price before tax to add GST, or a final price to find how much of it is tax. The result shows the taxable value, the tax split into CGST and SGST for a sale within the state or IGST for a sale to another state, and the total written in words for your invoice. The current 5%, 18% and 40% slabs are one tap away, the older 12% and 28% rates are there for earlier bills, and any other rate can be typed in.

How it works

  1. Enter the amount.
  2. Choose "Before GST" to add tax or "Including GST" to remove it, then pick the rate.
  3. Read the taxable value, CGST and SGST or IGST, and the total. Copy the result if you need it.

Handy for shopkeepers, freelancers, accountants and anyone checking a bill or quoting a price.

How GST is calculated, with the current slabs

GST is charged on the taxable value of a sale. If you know the price before tax, you add GST. If you only know the final price, you work backwards to find how much of it is tax. The calculator does both and shows the split you need on an invoice.

The two formulas

A common mistake is to take 18% off the total. 18% of ₹1,180 is ₹212.40, which is too much; the tax inside ₹1,180 is ₹180.

CGST, SGST and IGST

For a sale inside one state the tax is split equally into CGST and SGST, so 18% becomes 9% + 9%. For a sale to another state the whole amount is charged as IGST. The total is the same either way. The first two digits of a GSTIN are the state code; the GSTIN validator decodes it, and the full GST state code list has every code.

GST rates from 22 September 2025

The GST Council replaced the old four-slab structure with two main rates. Most goods and services now fall under 5% or 18%, and a 40% rate applies to a short list of luxury and sin goods. Special rates such as 3% on gold and silver continue, and many essentials are exempt. The 12% and 28% buttons are kept for bills dated before the change. Always confirm the rate for your product's HSN or SAC code on the official GST portal. When you are ready to bill, the GST invoice maker builds the invoice with a UPI QR.

Questions about GST Calculator: Add or Remove GST

How do I calculate GST on an amount?

GST = amount × rate ÷ 100. On ₹1,000 at 18% the GST is ₹180 and the total is ₹1,180. For a sale within the state it is split equally into CGST ₹90 and SGST ₹90.

How do I remove GST from a total?

Taxable value = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). A total of ₹1,180 at 18% is ₹1,000 before tax and ₹180 of GST. Choose "Including GST" to do this.

What are the GST rates now?

Since 22 September 2025 most goods and services are taxed at 5% or 18%, with 40% on a short list of luxury and sin goods and special rates such as 3% on gold. The rate depends on the HSN or SAC code, so confirm it before billing.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?

For a sale within one state the tax is split equally between the centre (CGST) and the state (SGST). For a sale to another state the whole tax is charged as IGST. The total tax is the same.

Is 18% of the total the same as the GST inside it?

No. 18% of ₹1,180 is ₹212.40, but the GST inside ₹1,180 is ₹180, because the tax was charged on ₹1,000. Divide by 1.18 to find the price before tax.

Is what I type sent to a server?

No. GST Calculator: Add or Remove GST runs as JavaScript inside your own browser tab. Nothing you type is transmitted, and it keeps working without internet once the page has loaded.
