A recruitment notice does not ask how old you are today. It fixes a cut-off date, often called the crucial date, and your age on that one day decides whether you can apply. The cut-off is printed in the notification, for example "age as on 1 August 2026".
Most central government notices say a candidate must have attained the minimum age and must not have attained the maximum age on the cut-off date. With limits of 18 to 27 years on 1 August 2026, you must have turned 18 on or before that day, and you must not yet have turned 27. Notices express the same thing as a date-of-birth range, such as "born not earlier than 2 August 1999 and not later than 1 August 2008". The calculator shows this range so you can compare it with the notice.
Relaxation is added to the upper limit only. It varies by exam and category: many central government exams give 3 years to OBC (non-creamy layer), 5 years to SC and ST, and 10 years to persons with benchmark disabilities, with separate rules for ex-servicemen and for state exams. Enter the years your notice gives in the Relaxation box.

Most central government notices say a candidate must not have attained the maximum age on the cut-off date. For a limit of 27 years you are eligible until the day before your 27th birthday. The date-of-birth range printed in the notice is final.
