Compress PDF to a Target Size

Shrink a PDF to 100 KB, 200 KB or any size for portals, forms and email, while keeping its text selectable.

About Compress PDF to a Target Size

Shrink a PDF to an exact KB or MB limit for upload portals, forms and email attachments. DocBrisk recompresses only the photos and scans inside the file and cleans up its structure, so text, links, bookmarks and form fields stay intact. Pages are flattened into images only if you allow it and there is no other way to reach the limit.

How it works

  1. Add the PDF. DocBrisk shows what is taking up the space.
  2. Pick a size limit such as 100 KB or 200 KB, or choose a quality level. Tick Black and white for the smallest scans.
  3. Download the compressed file. The result tells you whether the text was kept.

Use it when an exam, job or government portal, or an email, rejects a file for being too large.

How to compress a PDF to 100KB, 200KB or 500KB

Recruitment portals, exam applications, scholarship forms, university admissions and bank KYC pages often cap uploads at a fixed size: 100KB, 200KB, 500KB or 1MB. The limit is usually printed next to the upload button or in the form's instructions. Use that number as your target and DocBrisk works toward it on your own device.

How DocBrisk gets a PDF under the limit

Compression runs in stages, and the size is checked against your target after each one:

  1. Structure first. Duplicate and unused data inside the file is cleaned up. Nothing you can see changes.
  2. Images next. Photos and scanned pages are re-encoded step by step, and the highest quality that still fits the target is kept.
  3. Flattening only if you allow it. If the target can't be reached any other way and "Flatten pages if needed" is ticked, pages are turned into images and the text is no longer selectable. The result tells you when that happened.

Why is my PDF still bigger than 100KB?

Almost all of a large PDF's size comes from photos and scans. DocBrisk shows what is taking up the space before you compress, which tells you where the savings can come from. A multi-page scan made at high resolution may not fit 100KB and stay readable. These help:

Tips for exam, job and government form uploads

Can I compress a digitally signed PDF?

A PDF signed with a digital certificate, which is common on documents issued by government and bank systems, is sealed. Changing any part of the file, including compressing it, makes the signature show as invalid. If the receiver needs to verify the signature, upload the original. A signature that is only a picture of a handwritten signature is not affected.

Questions about Compress PDF to a Target Size

Does compressing a PDF keep the text selectable?

Yes. Only the photos and scans inside the PDF are recompressed, so text, links, bookmarks and form fields stay exactly as they were. Pages are turned into images only if you ask for a size the file cannot otherwise reach and leave "Flatten pages if needed" ticked, and the result says when that happened.

How do I compress a PDF to 100 KB?

Add the PDF, tap the 100 KB button and press Compress PDF. DocBrisk tries the highest image quality that fits under 100 KB. If a scanned file still will not fit, tick Black and white, which usually halves the size again.

Why can a text-only PDF not get much smaller?

Most of its size is fonts and text, which are already compact. Big savings come from photos and scans. DocBrisk shows the breakdown before you compress, so you know what to expect.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Compress PDF to a Target Size runs as JavaScript inside your own browser tab. Your file is read from your device into browser memory and the result is saved back as a download, so nothing is transmitted.
