In the old regime the same salary is taxed ₹44,200 including cess when you claim nothing beyond the ₹50,000 standard deduction. With ₹1.5 lakh of 80C investments the taxable income falls to ₹5 lakh and the old regime is nil as well, so both can reach zero; the new regime gets there without any investments.
